Garfield Park Conservatory

Engagement Photos

What to know before booking

If you’re thinking about having your engagement photos at Garfield Park Conservatory, you’re choosing one of the most beautiful and stress-free indoor locations in Chicago.

It allows you to slow down and focus on each other while being surrounded by beautiful nature year-round.

As a Chicago wedding photographer, I’ve photographed couples all over the city — but this place stands out for the following four reasons:

You Have Different Vibes in One Location

The conservatory offers a different feel in every section such as:

  • Lush tropical greenery

  • Desert house vibes (my favorite section)

  • Soft, glowing greenhouse light

  • Outdoor gardens in warmer months

The Light Is Beautiful At Any Time Of Day

Because it’s a greenhouse, light filters in beautifully all day long.

It’s One Of The Best Indoor Locations In The Winter Months

Chicago winters are unpredictable and sometime brutal.

Inside the conservatory, it’s warm, green, and glowing year-round. This session was photographed Mid-December when the weather was in the single digits (Our favorite part was taking off our coats as we arrived)

If you’re planning a summer wedding but want your engagement photos done in the winter, this is one of the best indoor locations in the city.

Parking Is Free & Easy

  • No downtown traffic.

  • They have a parking lot.

  • It’s also right off the green line if you’re taking public transportation

Convenience definitely matters!

Before scheduling your engagement session, there are two important steps you should be aware of:

1. A Photography Permit Is Required

Garfield Park Conservatory requires a non-commercial photography permit for engagement sessions.

As of writing:

  • Permits are under $100 for a one hour time slot

  • Must be reserved in advance

  • Pricing has gone up a bit since the last time I booked, so always confirm on the Chicago Park District website

You can apply for the required non-commercial photography permit through the Chicago Park District here.

2. You Need To Make Reservations

In addition to the permit, you must reserve general admission tickets online.

  • Tickets are free for Chicago residents

  • The conservatory is also closed Mondays and Tuesdays

Weekend reservations can fill quickly, so plan at least 2 weeks in advance

You can reserve your Garfield Park Conservatory admission tickets here.

If you’re planning your engagement photos at Garfield Park Conservatory, my goal isn’t just to give you beautiful images.

My goal is to help you feel comfortable and enjoy your session with your significant other. Your engagement session will feel true to who you are, candid and not overly posed.

If that’s the kind of experience you’re looking for, I’d be honored to photograph this season for you.
